Ann Griffiths (Formerly Thomas)

HYMN-WRITER

Born in Powys, Ann Griffiths was a Welsh poet and the most prominent female Welsh hymn-writer. She died following childbirth aged 29, leaving behind a handful of stanzas, including Wele’n sefyll rhwng y myrtwydd which is commonly sung in Wales. A musical of her life was performed at the 2003 National Eisteddfod, broadcast on TV and released on CD.
