Gwendoline Davies and Margaret Davies

PHILANTHROPISTS, ART COLLECTORS

Sisters Gwen and Margaret Davies built one of the great private collections of impressionist and 20th century modern art in Britain. Their wealth came from their industrialist grandfather, David Davies. The sisters acquired Gregynog mansion near Newtown just after WWI and from there they carried out their work in arts and music until their deaths, upon which they bestowed their 260 plus works to National Museum Wales.
