Suzy Davies AM

WELSH CONSERVATIVE ASSEMBLY MEMBER

Suzy Davies is the Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for South Wales West. After a career in both marketing and management, she became a solicitor working initially in family and domestic violence matters then, later, in property and probate.

Since becoming an Assembly Member, she has been her party’s portfolio holder for Culture & Heritage, Social Services and is now Shadow Minister for Education and Welsh Language, and Chair of the Cross-Party group for Women. In 2018, she challenged for the leadership of the Welsh Conservatives, the first woman to do so.

Suzy is also the first Chair of Women2WinWales, a voluntary organisation set up to encourage Conservative-minded women to stand for public office, including as elected representatives. On behalf of her group, she has been keen to connect with women’s organisations and groups within Wales’s BME communities to better understand barriers to participation – as well as taking that experience and information to campaign on equality within her own party. She was instrumental in the Welsh Conservatives adopting a definition of Islamophobia.

She has trained as a mentor for young offenders and has mentored with Prime Cymru. She has also been a trustee of a number of children’s projects and volunteered with community support groups. She has written for various publications and was one of the founding board members of the Welsh International Film Festival.
